House in the countryside in Uppsala, Sweden.

We live in the small historical town of Uppsala, just north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The town and its surroundings offer a variety of activities, cultural as well as outdoor activites and sports. Our house is situated a ten minute drive outside of Uppsala, a 20 minute drive to Stockholm Arlanda airport and 40 minute drive to Stockholm. The house was built in 2011 to suit the needs of a large family. With its 280m2 on two floors there is plenty of space. The house is of course fully equipped.

We are interested in an exchange primarily during the summer. We are never able to exchange in the summer after the 7th of August until October. We are also interested in exchanges during other school holidays, primarily Christmas, easter and Halloween.

We have four sons who have common interests in swimming, gaming, history and science. We have a swimming pool and a garden. We like gardening and letting the garden take form with our own hands is part of the pleasure. However, we don't like monotonous work and prefer automation, lawnmowers and vacuum cleaners alike...

About the neighborhood

Close to town
We live in the country but are very close to the town of Uppsala and not very far from any convenience. The motorway is 1 km away. It's a 5 minute drive to two big supermarkets, with adjecent shoppingcenters and IKEA. The opening hours at the supermarkets are from 8 am to 10 pm. If you want a pizza or just som bread you can buy that at Grill och Livs, a 10 minute walk. The public transportations are good but to get to the nearby lakes you need a car (even if it's possible to go by bike.).

The town of Uppsala
When you go into town you can visit many of the popular sights: The Uppsala Castle, The national Dome "Domkyrkan", or stroll by the small river Fyrisån.  The buses go twice an hour and it's a 20 minute ride.
Uppsala is the forth largest town in Sweden. If you want to visit the capital it's an less than an hour by train or car. We do not recommend arriving in Sweden at Stockholm Skavsta, it's more than att three hour drive.

Steam train - Lennakatten
A travel experience by steam train, railbus and veteran bus along one of Sweden's most beautiful rail routes. Make a stop at the café and station museum in Marielund or Fjällnora, where you can swim in the lake. You can also visit the engine and car depots in Faringe, where you can also go to Thun's outlet store ." You can get on or off at any of  the stations and stops. (App. 5 minutes walk to the nearest station, Bärby äng.)
Linnés Hammarby (pic 3)

Not far from our home is the summerhouse of Botanist Carl von Linné. Do like the emporor of Japan and stroll in his garden and se the plants that have been preserved from his days. (App. 10 minutes by car from us.)

Gamla Uppsala (pic 4)
Gamla Uppsala is one of Scandinavia's most noteworthy ancient monuments. Here are three majestic royal mounds from the 6th century, one of Scandinavia's largest burial places, and ruins of a cathedral built in the 12th century. The area is surrounded by myths, with legends of the powerful Svea kings who were descended from the god Frey, as well as of golden heathen temples, human sacrifice and ancient Nordic blood sacrifices. Today, Gamla Uppsala is a popular excursion spot, with the Gamla Uppsala Museum, Odinsborg restaurant, and the open-air museum, Disagården. (App. 15 minutes by car from us.)

We wouldn't be at Intervac if we didn't want to travel to all sorts of places. Our family prefers holidays where you can explore and have proximity to historic sights. Even the grown children still se advantages with taging along for the family holiday.
